| My Son The Day Before His Cardiac Arrest |
After a few days in the hospital the cause of his cardiac arrest was determined to be acute Pericarditis. The heart doctors told my son had he just taken a pain pill and gone back to sleep he would never have woken again. Pericarditis is an inflammation of the Pericardial sack that surrounds the heart. The sack had swelled and increased the pressure on his heart essentially strangling it until it could no longer beat.
Pericarditis has many different causes. Most commonly there is a virus of some kind the body is attempting to fight off and it settles in the heart or there is a bacterial infection in the body that causes the sack to inflame. Regardless, having this occur at 24 is highly unusual and we were all shocked.
My son was given a PIC line so that medications could be delivered directly to his heart and he is on several medications to control his blood pressure and reduce the swelling. Healing has been very slow but he said he is feeling better and noticing a difference.
In addition to my son's illness, Bronwynn Forest Torgerson, Writer, Author, Mother, Wife, Friend, and fellow Pagan (http://www.llewellyn.com/author.php?author_id=3948) passed away of a brain hemorrhage. Bronwynn had been fighting liver cancer. Her husband Dan is coping as well as can be expected and the community has rallied around him. There was a lovely service in her honor on Beltane where all of her friends and family were able to share stories (http://www.witchvox.com/va/dt_va.html?a=usaz&c=passages&id=15401). Bronwynn is the author of One Witch's Way (http://www.llewellyn.com/product.php?ean=9780738713694) and countless magazine articles. Her passing will leave a large hole in the Phoenix Pagan community. Bronwynn was responsible for bringing us Pagan Pride Day 10 years ago. I hope her journey to the Summerland was swift. Hail Bronwynn!I also had the joy of my car breaking down. $1200 to fix and it took a month! The really awful part is that I borrowed a car off my folks while mine was in the shop and it broke down! The bearings went and my father had to replace the engine. I felt just horrible. However, both of our cars are now back up and running. I love my car and fixing it was necessary, but $1200 left quite a dent in my wallet. However, my car is now as zippy as ever and even better than before.
| Happy 2nd Birthday, Lily! |
The end of the school year is rapidly approaching and I have only 16 more teaching days left until Summer. It is my intention to get back on recording Podcasts as quickly as possible. I didn't want everyone to think I podfaded. Life just seems to have thrown me some loops, but I promise to get back on track as quickly as I can.
